Death Eaters

I'm hopping about in my Harry Potter Studio Tour album, making pages in no particular order, but the album is taking shape in my head, and will have several distinct sub-sections when it's finished.

This is a page for the 'Costumes' sub-section, with two photos of the Death Eaters. It's hard to know what to do with two landscape photos, that isn't a repeat of another page, so I went digging amongst Glitter Girl's pages that I saved from Two Peas in a Bucket, hitting on Adventure 14 from early in 2012. I scraplifted her design with strips of patterned paper matted next to the photos in the centre of the page, and added cardstock strips at the top and bottom of the page.

All in the Planning

Time for another double page for my Harry Potter album. Unlike most of  the pages I've made so far, this page doesn't show a set or a group of props, but some of the plans and models that the art department made. Detailed blueprints are on display, showing multiple elevations of buildings like The Burrow. These were turned into white card models, which were used for planning things like camera angles for the films.

My double page is rather simple, with five photos lined up across the page. They are the plan for Dumbledore's lectern and the actual prop, the plan and white card model of The Burrow, and the white card model of Hogwarts Castle.

Florean Fortescue / Madam Malkin

When I made my first page about the shops in Diagon Alley (the one that has since been pulled apart), I decided that it was too 'heavy' with too many papers and too little white space. I was thinking about this in bed, and decided to try again with my photos in two distinct places with the white space in between. It took me a while to get those ideas down on a page (and a bit longer to blog about it), but this was the result:

I'm much happier with this page, which has smaller paper pieces and fewer photos than my previous attempt.

Magical Menagerie / Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment

I'm back with another challenge page today, as we head towards the end-of-the-month deadlines. This time I used Sketch #69 from Sketch-n-Scrap, but I did flip the sketch, use larger photos and move elements around.

It's another page from the Harry Potter Studio Tour, with photos of two more shops in Diagon Alley - Magical Menagerie and Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment.

The Burrow

I've followed the Stick It Down blog for a while, and used a few of their older sketches, but this is the first one that I've done "live".

As it stands, the sketch calls for a patterned paper background, but I'm doing all my Harry Potter Studio Tour pages on cream cardstock, so I had to introduce some colour via extra layers under the photos.

My photos are interior shots of The Burrow, and they are quite orange in tone, so I chose other colours from the kit of papers that I am using for this album. I started by matting the pictures on yellow cardstock, and pulled out the circle of teal and black paper that I had left over from making my Boys' Dormitory page. I ran that circle off the edge of my page, and placed the stripey paper behind it. I used the same two papers in the opposite corner, next to my title, and ran my journalling (a quote from the Chamber of Secrets) below it.

Boys' Dormitory

Another Hogwarts page for my Harry Potter album today - I picked three photos of the boys' dormitory in Gryffindor tower, two landscape and one portrait. My default layout when working with three pictures of mixed orientations is to make a row/column with two differently oriented photos and lay the third alongside/below, often backed by a circle of patterned paper.

I'm working with a kit of October Afternoon papers for this album (mostly Witch Hazel, with additional co-ordinating papers from other collections) and I don't have many whole sheets left now. I did have the black and blue print, but it was too dark to use a large amount. I cut two off-set circles to make a ring from that print and backed the inner part with a lighter pattern. I ran my title around the circle, and my journalling is another quote.

Eeylops Owl Emporium

I'm back with another page from Diagon Alley on the Harry Potter Studio Tour, and another sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.

The sketch has two square photos, but I used a larger photo of Eeylops Owl Emporium and a smaller close-up of an owl. I'd originally printed them with different heights so I moved the title across to fill in the gap below the owl.

Gringotts Bank

I'm tackling another building from Diagon Alley today, one that nearly didn't get included in the album. Only the steps and the outer door of Gringotts Bank are on display at the Harry Potter Studio Tour, and my photograph wasn't as interesting as the ones of the shops, so I was  going to skip scrapping it. However, I also had pictures of one of the vault doors and some wizard coins from other parts of the tour, and putting the three together for a page made sense.

I started out from the November Week 1 sketch from Let's Get Sketchy, altering the square photos to rectangles, but then I re-printed the middle photo a little larger, making Gringotts the main feature, with two supporting photos.

I moved the title onto a tag below the photos and used the orange tile stickers again. (I've decided to do all my Diagon Alley page titles the same way.) My journalling is another quote, from The Philosopher's Stone, where Harry visits Gringotts for the first time.

Harry - Ron - Hermione

Still with the Harry Potter pages, and this one will come in the Costumes sub-section of the album; it shows two sets of outfits worn by the principal characters. The top photo is the costumes from the Battle of Hogwarts; the bottom one shows Harry's invisibility cloak, with a green lining for the special effects to work.

The page is a scraplift of one from Glitter Girl's Scrapbooking Survival Guide, a class that I took at Two Peas in a Bucket.

Gryffindor Common Room

This page started out as a scraplift of this one, rotated, but it evolved from there and now doesn't look a lot like the original.

I had two large photos of the Gryffindor Common Room set from the Harry Potter Studio Tour, plus a few close-up shots which didn't make it onto the page. The smaller photo is the portrait of the fat lady who guards the entrance to the common room; the text is another Harry Potter quote.

Dumbledore's Office

I'm many pages into my Harry Potter album now (though I haven't been making the pages in order), and it's time to tackle a double. Dumbledore's office was one of the larger sets that we saw on the Studio Tour, and one of the most detailed, so lots of photos to display.

The left page has photos of the gargoyle that guards the staircase up to office, and the office itself. The right page has the details - magical instruments; Griffindor's sword; the headmasters' portraits; the cabinet full of phials of memories; Fawkes the phoenix; the sorting hat.

The text at the bottom is another abridged quote; it's from the Chamber of Secrets and describes Harry's first visit to Dumbledore's office.

My background is the same cream cardstock that I am using throughout the album; I stamped the stars on the top portion, and covered the bottom part with other papers. Once again, the embellishments are simple and repeatable - die-cut, punched and stamped circles with washi tape, brads and gems.

Potages / Scribbulus

I took photos of every shop in Diagon Alley at the Harry Potter Studio Tour, plus close-ups of some of the window displays. There are too many to give each shop its own album page, so I'm planning to scrap some of them in pairs. I did one page last week, but I'm not happy with it and it hasn't made it on to the blog yet. I think I used too many papers and didn't leave enough white space resulting in a very 'heavy' page. I've put it away for a few days and I'll see how I feel when I get it out again.

Meanwhile, Susan (Miniowner at UKScrappers) has posted her sketch challenge for November, and it's inspired me to try another shop page with a simpler design.

I used different coloured mats for the photos and papers in the top and bottom parts of the page, with two title areas for the two shops. I machine stitched around the edge of the page and ran the words 'Diagon Alley' along one edge.

The Knight Bus

Harry Potter again. Had enough yet?

This time it's three photos of the Knight Bus in the back lot of the studio tour. They take roughly the same space as the two 4x6 photos on 'The Cupboard Under the Stairs', but I took a different approach to the layout. My page was loosely based on one in Glitter Girl's Scrapbooking Survival Guide, a workshop at Two Peas in a Bucket (which I downloaded when Two Peas closed).

I used three blue brads in my embellishments, but I didn't have three the same. Two of these are larger and have black in them; the third is smaller and has green with the blue. I punched a small circle of card to go behind the smaller brad to add some black and increase its apparent size.

Mrs Weasley's Clock

I'm back again with yet another Harry Potter page. The set from The Burrow was on display at the studio tour, and I took a few close-ups of Mrs Weasley's magical clock, the one that tells her the whereabouts of each family member.

I've adapted the 1st November sketch from Stuck?! Sketches for my page. Although the sketch shows three small photos, it was fairly easy to adjust the different elements to use it for two 4x6 photos instead.

I've machine-stitched the large circle, which provides similarity/continuity with the Butterbeer page that I made a couple of weeks ago. I've been trying to repeat elements throughout this album, but one new thing did make it onto this page. I've had the sheet of vellum with gold triangles in my kit box, but this is the first time that I've cut into it as it hasn't seemed right on any previous pages. Hopefully I'll continue to use it on future pages; I gutted this piece so I actually still have quite a lot of the sheet left.

He Must Call it Home

A new month brings new challenges, and I will be using Harry Potter Studio Tour photos for as many challenges as possible.

The first one is Sketch #68 from Sketch-n-Scrap, a three photo sketch that I used for photos of 4 Privet Drive. The film crew used a genuine suburban house for the first film, but they later built this replica in the back lot of the studios. It's a popular photo spot and I took a couple of pictures of my daughter, as well as one of the house itself.

Once again, the journalling is a quote from one of the books, when Dumbledore explains the magic that protects Harry while he has a home here. I took the title from the quote too, better then the '4 Privet Drive' that I'd originally intended.
